

He was born in Catawba County on October 3, 1947 and was the son of Washington Randolph “Randy” and Lucien “Teen” Herman Gurganious.
Max is a graduate of Newton-Conover High School. He entered the Air Force in 1967 and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. He was employed by Herman-Sipe Lumber, M.G. Crouch Lumber, and Dennis Starnes Construction. Wood working was everything to him; besides his job, it was his hobby.
Max is survived by his wife, Judy Eastman Gurganious; daughter, Jadi Gurganious; sons, Cory Gurganious and wife, Candice, and Brady Gurganious and wife, Lark; seven beautiful grandchildren, Noah, Miriam, Ruth, and Ezra Gurganious, MaKenah Melvin, and Sophia and Koty Gurganious who all lovingly called him BUMPA; sisters, Linda (Ken) Tilley, and Cathy (Bruce) Elijah; brothers, Tim Gurganious, and Nelson (Selena) Gurganious; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod where a memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Pastor Dave Guelzow and Pastor David Ziehr will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and School, 2304 Springs Rd. NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
