HICKORY---Dorothy Barger Johnson, 79, of Hickory, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at Carolina Caring, after a brief illness. Born Dorothy Edith Barger, in Catawba County on April 24, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Harry Lewis and Mildred Edith Bollinger Barger. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her great granddaughter Sophie Elizabeth Weaver. Dorothy was a lifelong member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church and served as secretary for 50 years, also worked and retired from Catawba County school system after 20 years of service. She is survived by her daughters Karen Teague (Rick Carson) of Taylorsville, and Kay Weaver and husband Dennis of Vale; a son James Johnson (Toni Richmond) of Conover; granddaughters Kirsten Johnson of Hickory and Jessica Richmond of Conover; grandsons Dale Weaver and wife Raye Lynn of Hickory, Aaron Weaver and wife Sarah of Greensboro, Anthony Teague of Virginia Beach, VA, Joshua Richmond of Hickory and James Richmond of Conover; 6 great grandchildren; a sister Gail Finger and husband Dick of Salisbury and numerous other family and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Funeral will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 am at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Cauble officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
