

Hickory- Ernest Howard Robbins, 87 passed away peacefully at Catawba Regional Hospice on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Ernest was born October 12, 1929 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Hoyle Vestus Robbins and Mirilla Jane Towery Robbins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 4 brothers. He was a member of Life Center, Freedom Assembly and also Hickory Elks Lodge. Ernest served in the Army in the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Austria as a Sergeant over firearms from February 19, 1951 to February 13, 1953. He was employed by Regal Manufacturing where he was the Director of Technical Services. He was a wonderful loving, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Alice Denny Robbins of the home; daughter Cynthia Robbins Canella of Hickory; step-son Jeffery Houston and wife Kim of Morganton; grandsons Joseph canella of Durham, and Chris Canella of Hickory; step-granddaughter Katie Houston of Morganton; step grandson Benjamin Houston of Morganton; great grandson Jacob Canella of Claremont; great granddaughter Callie Canella of Claremont, Adelyn Canella of Hickory; brother Horace Robbins and wife La Vonne of Buford, GA; sister Merle Lackey of Shelby and former son-law Craig Canella. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Hill, Jay Tate and Mike Malizia officiating. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial gardens. The American Legion Post 48 will be providing military services. Memorials may be made to Freedom Assembly Church.
