

at the age of 88 with her husband of 69 years at her side. She endured several
years of declining health due to severe dementia.
Mrs. Smith was born on June 30, 1937 in Greensboro, NC to William Henry
Solomon and Ethel M Wall Solomon. She worked in the medical field with Dr.
Reid Zentner and and Dr. Stephen Smith. After her retirement, she lovingly cared for children in her home. In her spare time she was an avid seamstress and loved doing crafts. A devout Christian, she also sang with the choir at West Hickory Baptist Church and worked in the church library. She held the family together while her husband, a retired United States Marine Corps officer was deployed three times. Mrs. Smith was dedicated to her husband and his service in the Marine Corps.
Mrs. Smith was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband Donald F. Smith and her brother
William C. Solomon of Newport News, Virginia, her son Franklin Smith and his
wife Michelle Smith, her daughter Sharon E Smith, her three grandchildren
Lindsay E Hardaway, Donald Blake Gantt and his wife Devon Lail-Gantt, and
Andy Gantt and his wife Karen Gantt, and five great-grandchildren Laurel,
Loklyn, Steythan, Lyra, and Albert.
The family wishes to convey a heartfelt thank you to Carolina Caring,
especially Nikki and Zahara, for their outstanding care.
Viewing and receiving will be held on Tuesday December 9 from 12 to 1 at
West Hickory Baptist Church. Service to follow. Burial will be held at Catawba
Cemetery after the service.
