Eugene Cain Jr.

Eugene (Gene) Cain Jr., 72, of Conover, died Wednesday, May 31, 2023 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. A native of Philadelphia, PA., he was the son of the late Eugene Cain Sr. and Marie Nora Healy Cain.

While living in Pennsylvania, Gene was a Volunteer Fireman, then when he moved to North Carolina, he volunteered at the Horse Protection Society in China Grove, NC. He climbed Uncompahgre Peak, a summit in Colorado with his son Dylan.

Gene enjoyed the beach, the mountains, fishing and breweries. His favorite activity was always helping others. He retired from Food Lion Grocery with more than 20 years of service managing their print shop.

Gene is survived by his wife of 18 years, Brenda Sweat Cain; three sons, Dylan Cain (Nicole Jones), of Ogden, UT., Lucas Cain of Ogden, UT., and Rob Lyalls (Janet Harter) of Hickory, NC; brother, Joseph Cain of New Jersey; sisters, Marianne Basile and Catherine Cain both of Springfield, PA., and Elizabeth Rohall of Del Ray, FL.; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
