FRANCES ELIZABETH SHELL JENNINGS HICKORY – Frances Elizabeth Shell Jennings, 84, of Locust Grove, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, in Fredericksburg, VA. Born March 31, 1930 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Jeter and Naomi Taylor Shell. Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be fondly remembered for her passion for family, hospitality and the art of entertaining. During her 61 years of marriage to Charles Jennings, they enjoyed traveling, golf, camping, bowling and spending time with each other, their children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles and a sister Juanita. Survivors include daughters, Charlene Jennings Groom (Stephen) of OH, Gayle Jennings Joyner (Mark) of VA, Pamela Jennings Oeschger (Michael) of PA; brother, John Shell (Gertrude) of Morganton; sisters, Arda Huffman (Donald), and Rita Fraley of Connelly Springs; grandchildren Cory Groom, Thomas Allamon, Lauren Liming (Justin), Grant Hower ( Amber), Chelsea Groom, Lee Oeschger (Savanna), Chase Joyner and Ian Oeschger. Additionally, we recognize her decades-long friendship with Jerry and Sharon Gall and Bob and Barb Steiger of OH. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 12 PM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with Rev. Arthur Yount officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Frances’ grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 AM -12 PM at the funeral home.
