Garnie Mae Baker Travis, 97 of Newton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 19th, 2026, at Abernethy Laurels surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on January 4th, 1929, in Catawba County, NC, Garnie was the daughter of the late Henry and Eva Benson Baker. Garnie’s hobbies were crossword puzzles, and gardening. She was loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Travis; her son, Terry Wayne Travis, and great grandchild, Sera White.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Debra Hollar; her son, Charles “Danny” Travis; her grandchildren, Michelle, Jaime, Wayne and wife, Scottie and Melissa and husband, Bryon; her great grandchildren, Melea, Daniel, Caleb, and Kaylee and her great-great grandchildren, Melody, Colton, and Linleigh.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jack Little officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at Catawba Memorial Park
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Garnie’s name.
