Hugh Donald "Don" Starnes

HICKORY - Hugh Donald “Don” Starnes, 80, passed away Nov. 25, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Hugh was born April 6, 1934 in Alexander Co. to the late Guy Little Starnes and Ellen Ruth Starnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Claude Eugene Starnes; brothers, Tommy Starnes, Bobby Starnes and Vernon Starnes. He was a life time member of Shiloh Lutheran Church and was employed by Comfort Chair and Style Upholstery as a frame builder. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Alvania Pennell Starnes; sons, Robert Wesley Starnes and wife, Rebecca of Bethlehem and Todd Curtis Starnes of Bethlehem; grandsons, Michael Starnes and wife, Becca of Granite Falls and Kurt Starnes of Bethlehem and Kurts girlfriend, Emily Wilson of Hickory; step grandson, Timothy Settlemyre and wife, Beth of Conover; step great granddaughter, Carson Settlemyre of Conover and a step great grandson, J. R. Settlemyre of Conover and a sister, Jean Ann Starnes of Hickory. Services will be Friday, Nov. 28, at 2:00 P. M. at Shiloh Lutheran Church with Rev. David Hefner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 28, from 12:45 until 1:45 P. M. at Shiloh Lutheran Church in the Parrish Hall. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Lutheran Church, 1011 Shiloh Church Rd., Hickory, N. C. 28601.
