

HICKORY— Jack Largent Whisnant, 92, of Hickory, passed away, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice Jack was born in Catawba County on January 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Wade and Cora Baker Whisnant. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Michael Whisnant; 3 sisters and 7 brothers. Jack retired after 25 years of serving in the United States Air Force; while in the Air Force he served in World War II as a ball turret gunner on B-17, he served in the Korean War as Gunner on the B-29 and in the Vietnam War, he was on the refueling of KC 135 tankers. He received a distinguished flying cross for 36 missions over Germany, and also 5 air medals. After retirement he worked for ER Carpenter for several years.
Jack is survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Mozelle Carswell Whisnant of the home. Graveside service will be at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery on HWY 10, with military honors by the United States Shaw Air Force, Honor Guard, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 am with Reverend William Kanupp officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church Bus Drive Fund, 7929 West NC 10 Hwy, Vale, NC 28168. Online condolences may be left at www.hickoryfh.com.
