James was born August 7, 1927 in Catawba Co. to the late A. C. and Hattie Kanipe Hines.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, retired from Impact Furniture and a veteran of the Navy having served in WW II.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Shrum Hines of Hickory; daughter, Prisca Ledford and husband, Bobby of Newton; granddaughters, Casey Mueller and husband, Wayne of Hickory and Jordan Ledford of Newton; great grandson, Liam Mueller of Hickory; brother, Gene Hines of Conover and a bro-in-law, Robert Keever of Conover

Services will be Sunday, December 30, at 3:00 P. M. at Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Christ officiating.
Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Newton with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #48.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:45 – 2:45 P. M. at Messiah Lutheran Church.
