James was preceded in death by his father, Charles Maynard Gantt (Amy Loretta Smith Gantt), and by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn H. Gantt.
He is survived by his sister, Amy Martin, and his stepson, Brian Shook and wife, Jessica Shook; his nephew, William Smith; 7 grandchildren, as well as numerous great grandchildren and his stepdaughter, Deborah Ramey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home, on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
James will be laid to rest at Catawba Memorial Park following the service.
