Jimmy Ray Holman, age 73, of Hickory, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born February 18, 1945, in Caldwell County, NC, he was the son of the late Henry Holman and Sarah Kitter Smith Holman.
Jimmy was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Hickory, NC, where he was active with the Joy Makers senior group. He had retired from Regal Manufacturing as a machine mechanic and was a US Marine Corp Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Jimmy was a member of the Marine Corp League and also the American Legion Post #48 in Hickory, NC. He enjoyed classic car shows and was a loving husband and father and was a role model for his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Holman, Henry Holman, and Earl Holman; and sisters, Hazel H. Walker, Lois H. Kaylor, and Irene H. Mise.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Reep Holman of the home; daughter, Kimberly H. Lackey of Hickory, NC; son, Jimmy Bryan Holman of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Dakota Lackey, Dalton Lackey, Chris Holsclaw, and Sierra Hildebrand; sisters, Betty H. Spencer of Hickory and Mozelle H. White of Granite Falls, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 14, 2018, at Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Robison and Rev. Mike McKinney officiating. A graveside service with military honors by the Marine Corp League and American Legion Post #48 will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Thursday evening at Drum Funeral Home, 940 29th Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Joy Makers, c/o Highland Baptist Church, 828 9th Ave. NE, Hickory, NC, 28601, or to American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA, 23060-9979.
Pallbearers to honor Mr. Holman will be Andy Parsons, Dalton Lackey, Johnny Parsons, Harry Reep, Dakota Lackey and Bryan Holman.
