

Jo Ann Ritchie Carver, 91, of Hickory, passed away on February 7, 2024 at Frye Regional Hospital. Born April 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ted A and Ruby Kate Burns Ritchie. She was raised in Banoak, NC and attended Providence Baptist Church. She graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College and taught school at West Mecklenburg in Charlotte.
Jo Ann married John Carver and began a 28 year Air Force journey. She was married for 62 years and raised three sons, John Jr, Jeff and David. She retired to Hickory and attended First Baptist Church. She helped with missionary work in Ukraine and Africa. She traveled to many states and countries, with the Grand Canyon National Park, Germany, Holland and Switzerland being among her favorites. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, working crossword puzzles, and making Samantha dolls.
Jo Ann had a strong religious faith in Jesus and treasured the friendship of many ladies in her Sunday School class and others from church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, John Burnette Carver, daughter-in-law, Gena Carver, brother, Teddy B. Ritchie and sister, Betsy R. Behler and husband Alan.
She is survived by sons, John Carver Jr., Jeff Carver and David (Michelle) Carver, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Providence Baptist Church in Vale, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Baptist Children’s Home of North Carolina, 204 Idol St, Thomasville, NC 27360.
