Having driven trucks as his vocation since the age of 18, Joe David Smith, will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love of life. He was happiest sharing the bountiful produce from his annual vegetable garden, items he canned, and serving his famous potato dumplings at family gatherings.
He was the son of William and Helen Warlick Smith. At an early age because of the untimely death of his mother, Joe was allowed to be raised by his grandparents J. W. and Beulah Lynn Warlick and attended Fred T. Foard High School with an outstanding scholastic record and worked on the family farm until he left to serve his country in the U. S. Army in Germany. He is a member of the American Legion Post 48. Joe was retired from Epes Trucking.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Judy Kay Lloyd Smith; Brian David Smith, son; and Jeannette Smith Brannock, sister.
Survivors include 2 grandchildren, Coyia Ricker and Kaylee Smith, of the home. Referred to as “Big Brother,” he is survived by his special sister and brother-in-law, Cathy Smith and George Ritchie. He is survived by his stepbrother and sister-in-law, Sam and Frances McCracken.
