In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline Young Snyder and many half brothers and sisters.
John served in the Korean War and continued his service through the Army Reserves for 30 years. He made several mission trips to Honduras in service to the Lord. John worked for Bumgarner Oil Company for many years. He started the company’s heating and air division, and he trained many people in his trade. John missed a lot of Thanksgiving and Christmas meals with his family servicing furnaces. He played semi-pro baseball and softball for Viewmont Baptist Church. He taught Randall and Greg how to play baseball, ping pong, how to hunt and use firearms. John liked to go square dancing. He liked going on trips with Faye and his friends, Joe and Helen Mercer.
Those left to cherish John’s memory are his wife, Georgia Faye Young; nephews and nieces, Randall Sullins (Jeannie), Greg Sullins (Lisa), Rick Wilson (Flossy), Gerald Gouge (Sally), Saundra Denny, Rita Taylor (Phillip); and great nieces and nephews, Joel, Brian, Marianne, Kim, Chasity, and Joshua. The family would like to give a special thanks to Sandy and Michelle McAlpine for all their love and kindness.
