JOHNNY RAY POWELL SR CLAREMONT – Johnny Ray Powell, 82 of Claremont went home to be with his Lord on October 14, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born on February 20, 1935 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Dover P. and Edith Moody Powell. Johnny the loved the simple things in life, his family, taking care of those he loved, being on and working on the farm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Johnny Powell Jr., Bruce Powell; sisters, Ethel, Wilma, and his baby sister Vera; brother, Dover Jr. Survivors include his children, Cecil, Sharon, Beverly, Lori; grandchildren, Tiffany, Taylor, Eli, Michael, Allen, Madison, Scott, Rebecca; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen, Pauline; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1 PM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations. Burial will follow at Shoupe’s Grove Baptist Church in Icard.
