She was born in Catawba County on August 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Rueben and Rosa Hollar Drum.
In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her husband Stewart Deitz; 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
She was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA, and worked for the Hickory City school system as a secretary.
She is survived by her sons Gregory Deitz and wife Kimberly of Hickory, and Eric Deitz and wife Rhonda of Hickory; granddaughters Lindsey Deitz of Hickory, Lacey Deitz-Medd and husband Kris of Conover and Brittany Deitz Hall and husband Robby of Rocky Mount, and Mackenzie Tessiner of Hickory; grandsons Dillon Deitz of Hickory and Tyler Tessiner and wife Wendie of Hickory; great granddaughter Taylor Deitz of Conover, Evelene Tessiner of Hickory and a sister Sue Clay and husband Bud of Hildebran.
The family will have a private graveside service and will have a memorial service at a later date.
