Lamont Joseph Smith Jr.

He was the son born to Lamont Joseph Smith Sr. and Mamie Ruth Jackson-Smith Simpson on May 4, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated in 1987 from Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of five his mother remarried and he was raise by his step-father, Gregory Simpson in the Bronx, New York. He often spent happy summers with his grandparents Thomas and Johnnie Mae Jackson. After graduating from high school he pursued a career in entertainment. Lamont began DJing at some of New York’s most elite clubs. Then he expanded the business to Charlotte N.C. in 1994 becoming a record label executive managing many talented groups and artists. While pursuing his dreams as a entrepreneur he met his wife Kimberly in Charlotte N.C. and later moved to Hickory, N.C. From that union they had a son Larkam Smith. Lamont was a man of many talents; he served as an executive for a popular record label, produced music videos and appeared in TV promotions. Lamont later co-founded the Elite Protection Agency.

Lamont was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Thomas Andrew Jackson, Sr. and Johnnie Mae McNeal Jackson, Uncle Thomas Andrew Jackson Jr., Aunt Mary Elizabeth Day, paternal grandmother Elizabeth Smith.

Cherishing his memory is his father Lamont Joseph Smith Sr., Hickory NC; mother Mamie Ruth Jackson-Smith Simpson and step-father Gregory Simpson, Laurelton NY; son Larkam Smith, step-daughters Shanise and Page Hoover, Hickory NC; grandmother Dorothy Hampton, Bronx NY;uncles James McNeal, Toledo OH; William Jackson, Ann Arbor MI; Michael Jackson, Marion OH; aunts Shirley Ann Jackson-Curier, Alanta GA; Brenda Kemp, Clearmont FL; Brenda Jackson-Cross, Toledo OH.; Martha Mc Follins, Columbus, OH; Edgar (uncle) and Barbra (aunt) Parks, Toledo OH.

He will be greatly missed by a host of other relatives, friends and extended family members James Robinson, Robert Megginson, Jamal Russel, Fay Nichole Charles, Joseph, Dave and Chico Breelove.

The family will receive friends on Saturday December 28th from 10:45 AM until 11:45 AM at Clinton Tabernacle AME Zion Church, 480 Catawba Valley Blvd SE, Hickory, NC.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 28th at 12 Noon at Clinton Tabernacle AME Zion Church with Reverend Dr. T. Anthony Spearman officiating. Interment will follow at Southside City Cemetery.
