

HICKORY—Lee “Put” Rosco Troutman Jr., 92 of Hickory passed away peacefully at Catawba Regional Hospice, Monday, December 18, 2017. Born in Rowan County on June 8, 1925 he was the son of the late Lee Rosco Troutman Sr. and Nora Gantt Troutman Ritchie. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Smyre Troutman. He was raised by the late Glendon and Raymond C. Putman of Hickory, and attended Hickory High School under the name of Junior “Put” Putman. He was married to Georgia Smyre on May 8th, 1943, for 60 years, until her death on December 25, 2003. He worked at True Tread Tire from 1942 to 1943, until he was drafted into the United States Navy in September 1943 where he was honorably discharged 1945. He served on the USS Jordan. After serving in the Navy, he worked for Miller and Smyre Plumbing and Heating, then he went to G. A. Thompson Plumbing & Heating. In 1950, he started his own company Troutman Plumbing & Heating and was also owner of Troutman Rentals. He is survived by his daughter Gloria Propst and husband, Michael of Hickory; sons Richard Troutman and wife, Linda of Kure Beach, NC, and Rosco Troutman and wife, Carolyn of Hickory; granddaughters Melanie Haist and husband, Paul of Raleigh, Julia Byrd and husband, Michael of Crestview, FL, Wendy Troutman and partner, Jeff Jacomine of Hickory, Rashea Troutman and partner Robert Burrell of Newton, and Heather Huffman and husband Nick of Hickory; grandsons Lee Propst and wife, Tammy of Apex, and Michael Propst of Hickory; great granddaughters Ashlee Propst of Apex, Brianna McGhee of Fuquay Varina, Callie and Nikki Huffman, both of Hickory and Makayla Burrell of Newton; great grandsons Conor, Jonathan, and Patrick Slattery all of Crestview, FL, Matthew and Michael Haist, both of Raleigh; a brother Raymond “Sonny” Putman of Conover; and half-brother Gregory Troutman of Atlanta, GA. Special Thanks to his caregivers, Maria Punch and Danielle Reeves. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00am Augustana Lutheran Church with Reverend Gavin Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 48. Serving as Pallbearers will be the employees of Troutman Plumbing & Heating.
