Margaret Nellie Hampton Winters

Margaret Nellie Hampton Winters, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at her residence. Born March 8, 1923 in Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Millard Oscar Hampton and Rachel Dean Hampton Coffey. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Calvin Winters; daughter, Brenda Joyce Oakes; and brothers, Willie Sylvester Hampton and Tracy Herman Hampton.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Robert Joseph Winters and wife Karen Elaine of Ohio, and Glenn Richard Winters and wife Debbie Jean of Hickory; daughters, Doris Marie Ollis of Hickory and Linda Kay Hawn and husband Tony Carl of Hickory; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with President Mick Berry officiating. The body will lie in state from 12:00 p.m.- 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Missionary Fund, 5581 Brookwood Lane, Hickory, NC 28602.
