April 27th, 1980 – October 28th, 2024
Melissa Dawn Carswell of Morganton, NC, peacefully ended her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October 28th, 2024 and went home to be with her Lord. Born to Debbie Lowdermilk Cockrell and Clifford (Jerry) York, she was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, Tee Tee, and friend.
Melissa deeply cherished her family and found joy in every moment they spent together; she always made their happiness and well-being a priority over herself. As a devoted mother to her only son, Justin, she poured her heart into nurturing and guiding him with the kindness she embodied. She was a loving aunt “Sissy” to her nieces, whom she loved and adored, and proudly embraced her role as “Tee Tee” to her only nephew, showering them with affection. Melissa’s love extended beyond her family, as she was dedicated to serving her community with the same compassion and generosity that defined her life. She attended Central Baptist Church in Morganton, NC where her faith and warm spirit was a source of strength to those around her. Melissa had a natural talent and a genuine love for fixing things, often taking on projects with determination and creativity, and finding joy in making something whole again.
She was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents Velsie Cooper Lowdermilk, Manford Lowdermilk, and Ray and Cora York.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Debbie and Mark Cockrell of Statesville, Clifford (Jerry) and Sherrie York of Morganton, and her son Justin Carswell; her siblings, Jeffery York, Marsha York, and Katie and Jon Barnette; her nieces Raeleigh, Kinley, and Ari, and nephew Kaden. In addition to her immediate family, she will also be cherished by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Central Baptist Church of Morganton on November 16, 2024, at 2 pm with Rev. Tom Hartmann officiating. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Amorem Hospice Care in Valdese, NC or to Central Baptist Church in Morganton, NC in Melissa’s memory.
The Carswell Family is under the care of Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations.
