Meng Lor was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to the many that was fortunate enough to meet and encounter him. His perpetual smile and inclination to lend a helping hand to those around him were his greatest and most uplifting attribute many will remember him by. His ambitious character and determination never let him down as he was constantly ready for a new challenge no matter how big or arduous the task. His passion for fighting ventured with him while growing up, from wrestling in high school to mixed martial arts in college to his final antagonizing battle of colon cancer in April, 2013. At the age of 25 while attending his last semester at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for his bachelors in finance, he was diagnosed with state 4 colon cancer.
For the first time in 27 years of his life, Meng spent Christmas and New Years in the hospital. No matter what the circumstances, his smile never faded. He never gave up in his fight nor did he give up in his hope and faith. On December 19, 2014, Meng was admitted to the hospital for an acute abdominal blockage. He was released from the hospital after a 3 week stay in which case he took a turn for the worse. Two years into his battle, he took a sudden turn for the worse on February 28, 2015 leaving behind his beloved parents, Nhia Ying Lo and Chong Vue Lo and six siblings of the middle class. Although many may see him as losing his final battle in life, he considered himself a winner in the battle because he was always and constantly surrounded by the ones whom he loved and ones that loved him.
Family and friends will gather for Meng from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 until 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the United Hmong Hall in Newton. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park Sunday, March 15, 2015.
