Born in Catawba County on November 10, 1948, he was the son of the late R.S. and Annie Arney Rhoney.
In addition to his parents, his granddaughter Kenna Michelle Goins preceded him in death.
Duke attended Hildebran High School and joined the Army in January of 1969. While in Vietnam he served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Earlier in life, he had a cabinet business, Rhoney Cabinet Shop, the later he worked as a lineman for many years until he retired. After retirement, you could find him in his garden from sun up to sun down, year after year. Duke had many hobbies, but his favorite by far was to fish with his buddies- Curt, Cooz and Randy, to name a few.
Duke was a loving husband, father, friend and was the world’s greatest Papaw. He never met a stranger and was loved by so many. We will miss him unimaginably, but his spirit will continue to live on in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Janice “Gail” Rhoney of the home; his daughter Angela Hoyle and husband Jeremy of Hickory; granddaughter Kaylee Goins and fiancé Cody Linda of Hickory; his grandson James Hoyle of Hickory; brothers Larry “Tub” Rhoney and wife Debi of Hildebran and George Rhoney and wife Cheryl Ann of Hildebran.
