HICKORY – Norman Eugene Whitener, 87 of Hickory went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 28, 2024 after a short period of declining health with his family by his side.
Born on March 2, 1937 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Arthur Eli and Ola Hildebran Whitener. Norman was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. His faith and love for Christ and his church was always present in his life and heart. Norman worked in the furniture industry all of his life until retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary W. Starling, Maurice W. Herman, Charles Whitener, and Luther Whitener.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Alice Hefner Whitener; daughter, Cynthia Whitener Marlowe and husband Tim; 2 grandsons, Jeremy C. Marlowe, Dustin L. Marlowe and wife Angie; sister, Jean Killian Kauffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Dr. Cory Smith officiating. Inurnment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 PM – 1:45 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church Building Fund, 4266 River Road, Hickory NC 28602.
