

PATSY GAIL GUTHRIE NEWTON-Pasty Gail Guthrie, 80, of Newton passed away on Monday, July 18th 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born on October 13, 1935 in Winchester, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Bertha Steele. Patsy was a loving wife to the late Melvin Ray Guthrie for sixty years. She was a devoted mother to five daughters, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Guthrie was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton and a member of Emmanuel Emmaus, Walk 49. She participated in the Meals on Wheels Program. Her hobbies included reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. She is beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Colleen White and Juanita Emmert; sons, Melvin Ray Guthrie Jr. and John Moore Guthrie, and husband Gunnery Sergeant Melvin Ray Guthrie. Survivors include her sister, Jean McDaniel of Winchester, Virginia; daughters, Deborah Price and husband Michael of Denver. Robin Eckard and fiancé John Douglas Jr. of Statesville, Jacky Price and husband Brian of Conover, Jeanne Pritchard of Newton, Mary Jane McMurry and husband Kelly of Belwood; grandchildren, Justin and Brandon Price, Jason Guthrie and Crystal Kitts, Miranda Price, Lakesha Pritchard, Dylan and Logan McMurry; great-grandchildren, Kinley King and Carter Price. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11 AM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with Pastor Judy Eurey officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.
