

Phillip “Scott” Sain, age 70, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Born December 26, 1946 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Dwight Franklin Sain and Ruth Turner Sain and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory. Scott served in the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48 and an active member of the Honor Guard team. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Eckard Sain. He is survived by his sons, Gregory Allen Sain and wife, Elizabeth of Clover, SC and Brett Scott Sain and wife, Amanda of Hickory, NC; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Sain, and Grace Sain of Clover, SC, Ping Jun Sain, and Leela Sain of Hickory, NC; sister, Carolyn Smith of Hickory; and brother, Carroll Setzer of FL. The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 25, 2017 at Hickory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory, where Scott will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior, with Rev. Richard Schwandt and Rev. Dr. David Ludwig officiating. Burial, with military honors by American Legion Post 48, will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
