Mr. Powell William Turner

POWELL WILLIAM TURNER HICKORY – Powell William Turner, 84 of Hickory went home on November 7, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born on January 23, 1933 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late John Shuford and Pauline Powell Turner. Powell was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a truck driver for forty five years. Powell enjoyed fishing with his family. He loved driving his tractors and lawnmower around his farm. Powell was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Pauline “Polly” Hefner Turner; brother, Ronald Turner. Survivors include his sons, Dennis Lee Turner and wife Donna of Hickory, Dale Turner of Hickory, grandchildren, Mandy Frye and husband Bruce, Emily Turner, Alex Turner and wife Amanda, Lindsay Turner, Courtney Turner; great-grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Cameron Smith, Autumn Frye, Addison Turner, Braylon Alexander; a very special caretaker and sister-in-law, Vickie Munday; and numerous other family members. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1 PM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family requests that everyone come dressed casual. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 10, from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
