

Ray Clayton Weaver was born on September 13th, 1926 in Catawba County to Clayton and Carrie Weaver. While growing up, he worked with his Dad on the farm. On November 14th, 1944, at the age of eighteen, he was drafted into the Army. He served in Japan and the Philippines. He was discharged from the Army on November 10th, 1946. On May 12th, 1951, Ray married Betty Jo Mitchem. They were blessed with five children; Sandra, Wanda, Susan, Patsy, and Wesley. Ray became a self-employed welder in 1961. He was known for his very hard work ethic and continued to weld into his eighties. The last twenty years of his life, he bravely battled several forms of cancer, but on April 18th, 2020, he unfortunately lost his battle. He is greatly missed!!! Born in Catawba County on September 13, 1926, he was the son of the late Clayton Marvin and Carrie Bollinger Weaver.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Nicholas Roseman; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Ray was owner and operator of Weaver’s Welding and Repair, he was a member of Sardis Lutheran church, and served 2 years in the Army during WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jo Mitchem Weaver of the home; his children Sandra Weaver Roseman, Wanda Weaver Stallings and husband Ralph, Susan Weaver Jones and Arlando Miller, Patsy Weaver Johnson and husband Rick, and Wesley Weaver; grandchildren Amy Jones, Megan Roseman, Chris Johnson and Dakota, Derrick Johnson and Brittany, Heather Carroll and Ethan, Kerby Smyre and Greg, and Sgt. Keri Weaver. ; great grandchildren Hayden Johnson, Karter Johnson, Grady Johnson, Cohen Johnson, Cooper Carroll, Evie Jo Carroll, Gregory Thomas Smyre III, Kipton Jennings; brother Frank Weaver; sisters Grace Hoyle and Jo Ellen Hayes, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weaver will lie in state Monday, April 20, 2020 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home, family will not be present.
A private family graveside service will be held at Sardis Lutheran Church Cemetery with Reverend Adrienne Martin officiating.
The family will have a Celebration of Life service to be announced at a later date.
