Ruth Shull Lail

NEWTON-Ruth Shull Lail, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Trinity Village in Hickory. She was born the daughter of the late Charlie Otis Shull and Doshia Emma Houser Shull on March 2, 1929 in Catawba County. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, canning, and going to the beach. She was also a retired seamstress from Quality Cleaners. Along with her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Pearly Lail; sisters, Catherine Cook, Betty Duckworth, and Sue Thackerson, and brother, Odis “Bud” Hugh Shull. Survivors include her son, Ronnie Lail and wife Janie Boggs of Newton, daughter, Rita Lail White and husband Tony of Newton; grandchildren: Michele White Danner (Steve), Angela Lail Calliope (Gary), Kelly Denise White, and Chad Lail (Megan);great grandchildren: Chelsea Danner, Drew Danner, Sierah Calliope, Avah Calliope, Saylor Boone, and Lincoln Lail, and sister, Linda Shull Canipe (Wilfred), sister-in-law, Ruth Rhoney Shull, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The Reverend Andrew F. Weisner will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1686 6th St. SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
