

Ruth Leatherman Seabock died Thursday, July 31st at Catawba Regional Hospice following a lingering illness. Born August 16, 1930, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Belton G. and Mae Carpenter Leatherman. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wilbert W. Seabock, a son Marcus Scott and wife Joellen Schilmoeller of Santa Fe, N. M., a daughter Janet Elaine and husband Matthew Terribile of Raleigh, N. C., a sister Clara L. Scronce (A. Z.) of Vale, a sister-in-law Yvonne Keener Leatherman of Vale, and a sister-in-law Estelle Heavner Leatherman of Sanford, Florida. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Nannie Muriel Brooks (Paul); brothers, Arthur D. Leatherman (Zelda Powell), Dale Leatherman (Marie Gilbert), Paul Leatherman, Billie D. Leatherman, and Lewis Leatherman; a niece, Peggy Thurman, and a great- nephew, Christopher Leatherman. She was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She co-chaired the organization of the church’s Prayer Chain, Mt. Olive Quilting Group, Prayer Shawl Program , and Chrismon Ministry. A former WELCA member, she also served as a Sunday School teacher and a Brownie Scout Leader. A graduate of North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1951, she was actively engaged in her profession as a Registered Nurse for 40 years until her retirement. She was a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, The Occupational Nurses Association, and the Catawba Valley Homeopathic Study Group. She was a founding member and instructor in the group, having studied on a national level. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2780 North Center Street, on Sunday, August 3rd at 4:00 PM with Pastor Dave Keck, Jr. and Vicar Rebecca Lord officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday, August 2nd at Hickory Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road Newton, NC 28658; Trinity Village, 1265 21st NE Hickory, NC 28601; or the Cemetery Fund, Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2780 N. Center St. Hickory, NC 28601. Hickory Funeral Home is serving the Seabock Family.
