Ruth Marie Simpson

Hickory – Ruth Marie McGee Simpson of Hickory passed away from this life on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Testa Family Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC. She was ninety two years old.

Ruth was born on April 21, 1930 in Rockingham County, NC. In addition to her parents,

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Archie Charles Simpson who passed in March 1990.

Ruth is survived by her three children: Brenda Simpson Birney (Reed Birney) of Williamsburg, VA; Steven Lee Simpson (Sandra Hampton Simpson) of Lincolnton, NC; and Dawn R. Simpson.

She was the daughter of the late Gray and Garnet May McGee of Madison, NC. Ruth was the youngest child of eleven children. She grew up in Rockingham County; but lived most of her adult life in Catawba County, NC. Her great loves were her children and grandchildren: Lauren Birney Gray of Richmond, VA: Scott Reed Birney of Danville, VA; Sheena Simpson Kiser of Lincolnton, NC; Sawyer Simpson of Lincolnton, NC; and three great grandchildren. She will be affectionately remembered for her caring spirit and compassion for animals.

A graveside service is planned for 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 13th at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC.
