

HICKORY- Sarah Colleen Seabock Starnes, 90, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Colleen was born September 2, 1925 in PineTops, NC to the late Ivan Ray and Blanche Lail Seabock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Oran Odell Starnes Sr. her sister Hazel and brother-in-law Lohr Loveland Sr. and her son-in-law Lt. Robert Carson Jr. Colleen began her teaching career at Granite Falls High School. She retired from Catawba County School System where she taught at St. Stephens High School. She was a very active member at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Viewmont where she participated in Handbells, Esther Circle and numerous other activities over her lifetime. She served as church organist at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 25 years. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Hickory Soup Kitchen and Bloodmobiles. As a retired teacher she was a member of NCRSP. Surviving are her daughter, Lynnette Carson of Hickory, son, Oran Odell "Del" Starnes Jr. and wife Cindy of Hickory, daughter Kathryn Duarte and husband Derison of Chapel Hill, grandchildren and great grandchildren include Robert Lee Carson III and partner Jose Carabello of Washington, DC, Sarah Carson Phelps and husband David and their daughters Avery and Allison of Greenville, SC, Susannah Carson Galloway and husband Michael and their daughter Berit of Taylors, SC, Tyler Odell Starnes and son, Hudson, of Hickory, Joshua James Starnes of Richmond, VA, Abigail Renee Starnes of Hickory, Alyssa Ruth Starnes of Hickory, NC and Marshall Ray Duarte of Chapel Hill, nephew Lohr Loveland, Jr. of Connelly Springs, family friend Steve Brittain of Claremont, and numerous other nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her caregivers Sandy Phillips, Pat Stafford, and Carmen Brookshire, for their love and support. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 15th, from 1:45 PM until 2:45 PM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Viewmont. Services will be Sunday, November 15th, at 3:00 PM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church with Reverend David R. Keck Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will also gather for fellowship in the church Heritage Hall immediately following the committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Capital Campaign Fund, 2780 N. Center St, Hickory, NC 28601.
