

Sherry Renee Winkler, 51, of Newton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. Born March 15, 1964, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Gum and Betty Jean Huggins Dodson. She worked as a knitter at Catawba Sox Co. She was loved by all and “was one of a kind.”
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Ralph A. Winkler.
Those left to cherish her memory is son, Johnny Gum of Raleigh; daughters, Brandy Winkler and fiance Warren Rushing of Hickory, Tabatha Crouse and husband Chad of Hickory; brothers, Edward Gum, Randy Gum, and Kenneth Dodson; sister, Jenny Bumgarner; and grandchildren, Isaac, Emma, and Carlson Crouse of Hickory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with Associate Pastor Brian Odham officiating. Burial will follow in Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Drum Funeral Home.
Pallbearers to serve Mrs. Winkler are Kenneth Crouse, Frelan Holman, David Willis, Charles Evans, Damon Greene, Donnie Castle. Honorary pallbearer is grandson, Isaac Crouse.
