Conover – William Joseph “Joe” Fisher, 99 of Conover went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12th, 2024 at his residence.
Born on March 19th, 1925 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Robert “Zeke” Henry and Susan “Susie” Margaret Jordan Fisher. Joe was a Veteran of WWII and served in the US Army as a Staff Sargent, Crew Leader for 3rd Artillery Unit at Hickman Field and Bellows Field in Hawaii. After he was released from duty, he reenlisted in the 82nd Airborne Battalion 504 Paratroopers at Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Pickett, VA. After serving his country, he provided for his family by working in the automotive industry mainly in the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors.
In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by, his brother, Robert John Fisher; his wife of 66 years, Edna Mae Carneal Fisher and his grandson, Patrick Fisher.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his sons, William “Joe, Jr.” Joseph Fisher, Jr. and wife, Jill Holder Fisher, John “Johnny” Douglas Fisher and wife, Beth Fisher, Robert James Fisher and wife Joy Campbell Fisher, Charles “Charlie” Edward Fisher, Thomas “Tally” Harold Fisher, Andrew “Andy” Christopher Fisher and wife, Shelia Guffey Fisher; his daughter, Martha Fisher Poston and husband, Bobby Poston; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
Joe was loved by his family and many friends and will be dearly missed.
A visitation will be held at Catawba Funeral Home at 3060 US Hwy 70 SE, Hickory, NC 28602 on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 720 West 13th St, Newton, NC 28658 on Thursday, August 22nd, 2024 at 10:00 am. A Graveside Service will be held at Catawba Memorial Park following the Mass.
