Dipali Roy left for her heavenly abode on April 11, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on December 14, 1936, in Kolkata, India, as the eldest child in a progressive joint family system. Her parents NK Sengupta and Madhuri Sengupta, instilled in her strong family values and a deep love for knowledge from a very early age – principles that guided her throughout her life. Dipali was happily married for over four decades to Deba Prasanna Roy and together they raised their family across many Paper Mill colonies.
Dipali lived a full and active life. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Master of Science in Psychology, she possessed both intellectual curiosity and emotional insight, enabling her to thrive in any situation and adapt gracefully to the world around her and the changing times. Whether navigating new cultures or embracing life’s unexpected turns, she did so with resilience, warmth and quiet confidence.
She held her large circle of family close to her heart and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her brother DK Sengupta, sister Nandini Das and their families; her two daughters: Ranja and Rashmi, son-in-law Apurva Mathur, and her beloved grandchildren Sohini, Mitali, Kushal, Romil, and grand-son-in-law Samarth. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews and family friends who cherished her presence in their lives.
Dipali was known for her boundless care, kindness and generosity of spirit. She approached every environment and challenge, with grace and a warm smile. From her carefree college boarding days in Kolkata to immersing herself in expatriate life in a foreign country and then moving to the USA; she embraced each chapter of her journey with enthusiasm. At just sixteen, she earned her driver’s license – a testament to her independent spirit – and remained ever ready for a road adventure. She was proficient in speaking French and delighted in playing board and card games with a competitive spirit. She orchestrated many family travels across India and Europe, giving the children an early exposure to diverse and global experiences.
In her last eight years, Dipali received devoted support from her daughters, trusted caregiver Hasna Begum and the nursing staff at Sunharbor Manor, Roslyn Heights, NY. Her family is deeply grateful for the care and kindness that they provided.
Dipali’s legacy of love, family devotion, generosity and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be fondly remembered always, with love.
