She absolutely loved the cold weather. 

She would know exactly how long it took to drive back from her house. As we walked in from the garage the phone would ring and it would be her checking to see if we were safe. 

She had an iPhone before most of us did. 

Growing up, Grandma would call the house at 6:30 ever single day even though we told her that’s when we were eating dinner. She called anyway, without fail. Always made us smile knowing no she wanted to see how the family was doing, 

She taught me the Italian art of dunking bread in sauce. She taught me with linguine and clam sauce and it changed my life.

Blasting ABBA in the kitchen and dancing.

Drink order at a restaurant: ice water with lemon and a glass of Chardonnay. 

Loved sneezing! Record was 13 in a row and she loved it. Would ask for pepper so she could sneeze more. 

Mattituck days. Beach, Magic Fountain, Boom Boom Room (Elbow Room)

Christmas: bags and bags of gifts coming through the door. And every gift had a story. 

When I would sleep over on the weekend I’d wake up early and she would come and sit with me in the living room and we would watch Charles Stanley.

When I was around 2 during Christmas time I was at Grandma’s and the fire trucks were coming down the road. We ran outside to see Santa and get one of those popcorn balls they would throw. Well, to my unfortunate surprise, I got smacked in the face with one and immediately started crying. Since that day, for about 10 years whenever we would pray before bed we would pray for the whole family and end by saying, “…and we pray for that silly old Santa clause in the fire truck!” That man had no idea we had been praying for him for over a decade.

Grandma would take us on extensive shopping trips before school started each fall. She had no limit on what we wanted to get, to the point where if they didn’t have my size, she would start tearing apart the mannequin to get me the right size. And if I couldn’t decide between something, “Just get both!” Her generosity was unmatched and it was a tradition every year we looked forward to and allowed me to explore my fashion sense at a young age.

When I was little and whenever we saw an airplane flying above us, Grandma would say, “All planes go to Mexico!” Not entirely sure she even knew why she said that, but then every time we saw one flying she would ask, “Hey! Where is that plane going?” and I’d say, “Mexico!”  I think this was taught to all the grandkids over time.

When I was 2 years old, we decided to move back to New York so I could grow up with grandparents and extended family. Since I was so young, Grandma came out to California to fly me back while my mom and dad drove. When she asked me what snack I wanted I said that I wanted peas and carrots. And so it was that flight home she gave me my first chocolate experience. I ended up eating an entire chocolate bunny on the way home and my life was never the same.

Mom had a profound life example of doing the right thing and putting relationships and faith at the center of her life from her mother, our beloved Grandma

My deepest condolences to the  family,  I  pray for the peace of GOD to bring comfort to your hearts and minds  in this difficult time of grief and great loss.

Although we are all deeply feeling the loss of Mom/Grandma, we have also been celebrating her amazing life. We are grateful even for the last three years which were quite challenging but Mom faced with so much grace, dignity, and humor.  She greatly cherished the many family times and visits of friends. We are all so very grateful to the fantastic care she received 24/7 from her home health aides who loved her and took care of Mom as they would their own mothers. She had been having a very good couple of weeks recently full of alertness, energy, and laughter.  We had a big family dinner about a week before she passed on that she greatly enjoyed and was blessed by the outpouring of love.  Her very last day started by her looking out at the sunshine on the first full day of Spring; she smiled and said “Ah!”.  Her last evening was spent enjoying a good meal, and laughing as she watched the Three Stooges which she loved. While we will miss Mom very much, we are grateful that she passed on peacefully in her sleep without fear or any suffering at all, at home in her own bed.  We celebrate all she was to us, even through her last few difficult years. She loved intensely in her more vigorous days but also through to the very end as well.  So I will say what I did that last night and every night I saw her, "Good night Mom. Have a good rest and we'll see you in the morning."   “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” 2Corinthians 5:1
