

MCKENNA, Joanne I. formerly of Hicksville, passed away on April 2, 2026. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Jack McKenna. Joanne was the loving mother of the late Johnny Jr., Maureen (Paul) Pretter, the late Jeannie, and Michael. She was a cherished Gram to Chris (Christina), Julie (Shaun), John (Maya), Kristin (Tad), and Diana (Brendan), and a treasured great-grandmother to Cooper and Layla. She was deeply loved by her brother Gene (Annie), with whom she shared a special and meaningful bond. Joanne’s heart always belonged to her family and friends; she loved spending time with them. She found great happiness in watching her grandchildren grow, celebrating their achievements, and lifting them up when they needed it most.
She had a deep love of travel and embraced every opportunity to explore new places, creating lasting memories with family and friends along the way. At home, she found just as much happiness gathered around the table, whether playing board games, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Her laughter was constant and contagious, and she had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved.
Joanne lived her faith with devotion, embodying kindness, generosity, and grace. The love she gave was limitless, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 125 W. Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY 11801, on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 3:00–5:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, 17 Fordham Ave, Hicksville, NY 11801, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Committal Service at Long Island National Cemetery, 2040 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
