Milzen was born on April 5, 1961 in Nagcarlan, Philippines. As a young child, Milzen and his family moved to New York, where they continue to live to this day. After graduating from high school, Milzen enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he worked as an airplane mechanic and later became Staff Sergeant. His service took him to places like Iceland, Las Vegas, and Germany, where he would meet his future wife, Maria.
After his honorable discharge, Milzen enrolled in college and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Respiratory Therapy. Shortly after, he began working at Winthrop/NYU Langone Hospital in Mineola, where he continued to work until his passing. Throughout his career, Milzen was known for his determination and dedication to his work and patients.
More than anything, Milzen was a lover of golf, cars, and great food. He loved spending time with his daughter Sara, who learned to golf under his wing. He owned many beloved cars throughout his life, at one point shipping his Dodge Charger from the United States to Germany (and back) during his military service. He was an avid watcher of Jeopardy!, where his daughter Sophia was always his main competitor. Always a traveler, Milzen visited numerous places with his family, including Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and Hilton Head Island, trying delicious food and taking pictures of every meal along the way.
Milzen’s wake will be held on Saturday, July 13th at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home in Hicksville, NY from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Doctors Without Borders, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House.
