

Mr. Bunker Robert Sumner, Jr. passed away on November 17, 2011 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born on October 14, 1923 in Guilford County to the late Bunker and Novella Thomas Sumner. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942- 1946 during World War II. Bunker retired from truck driving with Byrd Motor Line.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ruth Burrow Sumner; sons, Charles Lee Sumner of High Point and Steven M. Sumner and wife Shirl of Trinity; daughter, Elaine Smith and husband Steve of Winston- Salem; brother, Darrell Sumner and wife Jeanette of High Point; sister, Nancy Lou Coggins of Archdale; five grandchildren, Ashley Sumner Peacock and husband Eric, Carrie Sumner, Angela Schwartz and husband Andrew, Robert Smith and fiance’ Amanda Frisbee, and Zac Sumner; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21st at Sechrest Funeral Service of High Point with the Reverend Eric Peacock officiating.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. before the service until time of service. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Cemetery.
