

Charles Jackson Jones went peacefully to be with our Lord on July 23, 2016. He was born November 18, 1924, in Eastman, Georgia in Dodge County. His family moved to Cramerton, NC where he attended Elementary and High School. He had completed two years of college when he turned eighteen and volunteered for the Army. He served in the 66th Infantry Division 263rd Regiment called the Black Panthers. He went to France during WWII and Southern Germany and Austria until 1946, when he was discharged. He returned to NC and in 1949 received a BS in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. He worked for W. F. Freeman in High Point, NC until his retirement in 1987, when he opened Jamestown Engineering Group with his partner, Dan Pritchett. He served as Jamestown’s Representative to the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority Board of Directors which oversaw the building of the Randleman Dam and Regional Reservoir and Water Treatment Plant. He served as Chairman for two years. He was nominated by the Town of Jamestown and received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in March, 2010. It is the highest award in North Carolina awarded to a civilian. In August, 2015, he was awarded a Bronze Star for his WWII Service and on June 15, 2016, Mr. Jones was awarded the French Legion of Honor for his WWII participation in liberating France and protecting its civilians.
Mr. Jones was an avid tennis player throughout his life. He enjoyed reading, his family and traveling. He was a member of Montlieu Avenue United Methodist Church for over 50 years leading the Methodist Youth Fellowship and teaching Sunday School.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Hudson Jones, his parents Martin Monroe Jones and Alma Nixon Jones, his sisters; Nina Fisher and Blanche Cain and his brother, William Jones.
He is survived by his children; Sandra L Jones of Sanford, Leslie Jones Johnson (Thomas) of Fullerton, CA, Michael H Jones (Joanne ) of Knightdale; Grandchildren Charles Jordan, Christopher Johnson, Daniel Jones and Laura Jones; and sister Ethel Jones Metz of Spartanburg, SC along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at 11:00am at Sechrest Funeral Chapel in High Point with visitation and fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Ragsdale YMCA, 900 Bonner Rd. Jamestown, NC 27282.
