

A resident of this area all of his life, Mr. Piner was born on September 7, 1943 in Guilford County to the late Lamer Clyde and Lala Delk Piner. He was a veteran of the National Guard and later retired from Guilford County Schools. Mr. Piner was a dedicated and faithful member of Trindale Community Church, where he was affectionately known as “the Bubble Gum Man”. He especially loved watching Westerns and enjoyed history.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Sechrest Piner of the home; children, Debbie Atkinson and husband Michael of Myrtle Beach, SC, Stephanie Phillips of Danville, VA, Melodie Beck and husband Darrell of High Point, Laura Gore of Myrtle Beach, SC, Elizabeth Rhems and husband Carnell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Matthew Piner and wife Erica of High Point and Stephen Oxendine of High Point; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Judy Piner and husband Ralph Chilton of Trinity.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am Thursday, Sept. 1 at Trindale Community Church with Rev. Ottis Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 pm Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Davis Funerals and Cremations.
