

She was born July 3, 1918, in Smithfield, NC, a daughter of Thomas J. and Mary Elizabeth Dodd Coates, the fifth of six children. She has been a resident of High Point since 1935. She was a resident of Mills Home in Thomasville, NC from 1925 to 1935 where she graduated from high school. She continued her education in Greensboro, NC, graduating from Kings Business College. She was employed as bookkeeper at the High Point Enterprise and later for many years at Phillips, Davis, Inc. as secretary to Earl N. Phillips, Sr.
On March 27, 1937 she married Robert Williams Beaver, Sr. who she met at the Elwood Cox Boarding House. They made their home in High Point, except while she followed him during his service in the Air Corps during World War II. During that time, she served her country by working in a munitions factory in Connecticut.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and active in the Women of the Church, serving as Vice-President and Treasurer, Circle Chairman, Sunday School teacher. She was very active in her community, as a Girl Scout leader, member of the Dogwood Garden Club, and active in the PTA and Red Cross. She enjoyed golfing, sewing, gardening, travel, and spending time with family and friends. Most of all she loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who taught us all so very much and led by example. She was known by her elegant manner.
She was predeceased by her husband who died October 1, 2002. She is survived by a son, Robert William Beaver, Jr. and a daughter, Lynn Beaver Crawford, and her husband, Kent Douglas Crawford. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kent Douglas Crawford, Jr. and his wife Lexi McBride Crawford, Elizabeth Coates Crawford, and Ann Hunter Beaver and a sister-in-law, Pauline Collins.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Kenneth Broman-Fulks officiating. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center of the church following the service. Inurnment in the church columbarium will be private.
