Eula Hargett Lyons died February 26, 2020 at River Landing in Colfax, N.C. at the age of 104. She was born February 20, 1916 in Union County, N.C., the daughter of James Ruffin and Artha McManus Hargett. Mrs. Lyons had been a resident of High Point, N.C. since 1954.
She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, and taught home economics in the town of Grover in Cleveland County, N.C. During and following World War ll, she worked in Washington, D.C., Winston-Salem and Charlotte with the Veterans Administration. She was a member of the North Carolina Education Association and the Retired Government Employee Association.
She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, the Adult Fellowship Sunday School class and served with the United Methodist Women, The Martha Ministry and a member of the Visiting Team to the shut-ins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amelia Esteras, her parents, her husband of 45 years Bert E. Lyons, and her brother Hurley Hargett and wife Carol.
She is survived by her daughter Alice Rothrock (Tom) and her son-in-law Bill Esteras. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Brian Long of High Point, Leeland Rothrock of Virginia Beach; and Whitney Wellborn of Fayetteville, N.C., as well as six great-grandchildren Austin Long, Allie, Mia and Daniel Wellborn, and Kai and Rori Rothrock. Survivors also include three nieces: Patricia Phillips, Dorane Benton and Dawn Bennett.
A memorial service will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at River Landing on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. She will be interred beside her husband in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in a private service.
