James Stewart Dunham, age 82, of High Point, NC, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born on January 25, 1939, in Galeton Pennsylvania, to the late Edith (Wooley) Dunham and Claude Raymond Dunham.
Jim proudly served with distinction in the army for 20 years. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and flew Huey helicopters during the Vietnam war. He ended his long business career as an assistant professor of business at High Point University where his teaching went beyond the walls of the classroom.
His family and friends loved his humor, wit, wonderful smile, and laugh! He was the kindest and most thoughtful person and a true gentleman. Jim was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point. He enjoyed getaways with his army buddies and loved the North Carolina mountains which reminded him of his hometown in Pennsylvania.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Irene Hoeweler Dunham, and his 6 siblings, Weldon Dunham, Mae Erway, Loren Dunham, Claude Dunham, Charles Dunham, and Illa Carpenter.
Jim is survived by his two children, John Dunham, and Laura Brown, husband Charles Brown, and his beloved grandchildren, Erin Wallace, Emma Brown, and Ellery Brown. Jim loved his close companion, Ingrid Copeland, and his wonderful caretaker, Jody Chen. He remained close to numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends from all over the country.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in honor of Jim’s late wife Irene Dunham. Donations can be made to GiveNow.LLS.org
A Celebration of Life for James will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021 at 1:00pm at Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, 976 Phillips Avenue, High Point, North Carolina 27262, followed by visitation with the family.
