

Mr. Riley was born on April 21, 1923, in Marlboro County, South Carolina to the late John B. Riley and Ruth Miller Riley.
He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was the VFW Commander 619 in High Point. Joseph worked for North State as a lineman for 41 years and enjoyed playing for their softball team. He was a faithful member at Laurel Oak Christian Church and enjoyed serving as a leader in the Boy Scouts.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Audrey Beaman Collins; grandson, Kevin Smith and great niece Michelle Collins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen Chilton Riley; sons, Joseph William “Butch” Riley, Jr. of Surry, VA and Boyd Elwood Riley “Buddy” and wife Berta of Randleman, NC; daughters Joni Johnson of Thomasville, Lynn Robinson and husband Johnny of High Point, Alicia Culler and husband Steve of High Point, Audrey Smith of Archdale and Tara Ball of Graham; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point, with Reverends Allan Brown and Kelly Barefoot officiating the service. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the funeral home. Mr. Riley will be escorted to the cemetery by the Patriot Guard, and military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
