
Joseph Parker Slade, 91, of Lake Placid, FL, died peacefully on Sunday evening August 16, 2015. Mr. Slade had been a resident of Lake Placid for twelve years and most recently a resident of Southern Lifestyles ALF.
He was born January 1, 1924 in Jamestown, NC, one of nine children of Josephine Drake and Walter A. Slade. Mr. Slade served his country with honors in the US Navy during WWII and Korea. After his discharge from the service, Mr. Slade resided in Jamestown 55 years, taught and coached at Jamestown School and was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church.
He worked many years in the furniture industry in High Point, North Carolina, and was a former co-owner of Disque Furniture Company. Traveling around the country and watching baseball and college basketball were major interests in his retirement years.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane Lewis Slade and is survived by his children, Monnie S. Blesse (Fred) of Auberry, CA and Joe Slade, Jr., (Linda) of Ashe County, NC; four grandchildren, Andrew and Lindley Slade, Patrick and Danielle Rooney; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend, Geraldine Mrozka of Lake Placid, FL.
Family will receive visitors Saturday, August 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sechrest Funeral Service 1301 East Lexington Ave., High Point, NC 27262.
