

Josie was born in High Point on August 15, 1928 to James Jennings and Mary McCarn Armentrout. She retired in August of 1990 from Davis Furniture Industries after twenty-five years of loyal service. She was a lifelong member of Ward Street United Methodist Church and attended the C.B. Barr Sunday School Class. On September 20, 1947, she married Clifford Walker Cleveland who preceded her in death on March 10, 1990. Also preceding her in death was a grandson, Blake Walker Praigg, on August 1, 2006.
Josie loved gardening and crocheting. She joyfully shared her gifts with family, friends, and neighbors.
Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Cleveland Bretzmann and husband Raymond and Dana Cleveland Hill and friend Jerry Gaunce, all of High Point. Josie was “Mamaw” to three grandchildren: Joe Alvarez and wife Natalie of Edgewater, Maryland, Rhea Alvarez Wardlaw and husband Paige of High Point, and Casey Bretzmann Leach and husband Jay of Manassas, Virginia; and four great grandchildren: Victoria Marie Davis, Preston Wardlaw, and Meadow and Crew Alvarez. She was also “Mamaw” to Buddy and Charles Praigg and Donna Praigg Parker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15th at 11:00 am in Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue in High Point by the Reverend Dr. Kenneth Broman-Fulks. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am prior to the service.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of River Landing, Pebble Beach # 1, Saint Andrews Unit, and to Hospice of the Piedmont for their love and care.
