

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of High Point with Reverend Debra Swing officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.
She was born Oct. 18, 1922 in Cornelia, Georgia to the late James Daniel Allen and the late Nettie Means Allen. Always a self-professed feminist, she was the first elected female student body president of High Point Central High School in 1938. She advocated women’s issues in the Chamber of Commerce and was involved in the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). She married her highschool sweetheart, Harold Leach in 1942. They were married 71 years when he passed away in 2013. Kathryn authored the popular Action Line column in the High Point Enterprise. She also worked for the American Red Cross assisting military families, and went on to become the Executive Director for the High Point-Thomasville American Red Cross.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mayna Allen Hulbert (Bob), Mildred Allen Coppedge (Alva) and James Allen.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay Hocking of High Point; son, Hal Leach of Summerfield; daughter-in-law, Debbie Leach of Greensboro; grandson, Carson Leach; sisters-in-law, Florence Allen (James) of Greensboro and Dorothy Stockdon of Richmond, VA; a dear special friend and caregiver, Dennis Brewer; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at her residence immediately following the memorial service.
