Lytton Tingley Barker

Mrs. Barker was born in Blackstone, Virginia on November 24, 1922 to Vern Edward and Ella Litton Tingley. She received her college education at Meredith College in Raleigh, where she served as Editor of the Twig, Senior Class Secretary, and worked mornings and weekends in the Meredith dining hall kitchen. She later earned a Masters in Library Sciences from UNCG, serving as Librarian at Guilford Technical Community College for 20 years. She was a long time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Barker.

Surviving are her daughter, Faye Whitesides of High Point and two sons; John Barker and wife Vicki of Wilkesboro, NC and Alex “Tom” Barker and wife Mary Lou of Sullivan, Maine. There are five grandchildren. Mrs. Barker has a sister, Mary Elizabeth Schwartz of Louisville, and a brother, Frank Tingley and wife Ruth of Thomasville.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday the 29th at 3:00 pm in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Chapel on 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point. The family will receive friends following the service in the Asbury Room of the church. Memorials may be directed to The ARC of High Point, 153 E.
