Mary Snow Hooper, age 102, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
Mary Snow was born in Davidson County at their home, Brummell's Inn, July 25, 1919, a daughter of the late Ernest Cridlebaugh and Minnie Payne Cridlebaugh. Mary Snow went to the old Boston School, Midway School, Hasty School and graduated with a teaching degree from High Point University in 1941. She went on to teach elementary school in Hickory and Burlington. In 1947, she married Emory McCormick Hooper from Caswell County and went to live in Venezuela, Guatemala and Brazil. For 27 years, Mary Snow saw much of Central and South America as their cultures developed. She did substitute English teaching in the local school systems and it was in her travels that she honed her painting skills.
Upon returning to her Davidson County childhood home, she renovated the family residence and insured that it will be preserved as a special place in the history of Davidson County as a National Historical Home Mary Snow enjoyed her life and often quoted "The life given us by nature is short but the memory of a well-spent life is eternal." by Christopher Halloway. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory McCormick Hooper, a son, David Emory Hooper, a daughter, L. Gail Hooper; a sister, Pearl Cridlebaugh; and three brothers, Thomas Pierce, Charles Bryan and John Clark Cridlebaugh.
Surviving are a daughter, Janis Ann Hooper Grayson; grandchildren, Alexandra Grayson and David Grayson; nieces, Mary Caroline Cridlebaugh, Elizabeth Cridlebaugh Hayworth; nephews, Charles Cridlebaugh, Michael Cridlebaugh and Tom Cridlebaugh.
Due to the current state of the pandemic, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Davidson County or Bethel United Church of Christ in Caswell County.
